Check out this article, and see the strong distain for any form of chivalry displayed from a man towards a woman – http://www.stuff.co.nz/life-style/love-sex/77342344/chivalry-turns-women-sexist-according-to-survey.
According to the author, because I desire to cherish my wife, protect her and provide for her, I am guilty of both “benevolent sexism” and “active sexism”. Notice the normalising of certain ideas in the article, i.e feminism is universaly right and praise and kind words towards women are wrong if we think they are actually “needed”. Increasingly in our society (and sadly in the church!) there is a huge misunderstanding, thinking that for a man to be “manly” means he is brutish and belittling, and for a women to be feminine means that she cannot also be strong, capable, and an inedpendant thinker. Chivalry is the world’s term. yet a noble one. Even greater than chivalry, is agape love, and that is a Biblical term. Men, let us fight to keep chivalry alive in our generation, regardless of the hostile voice of society that writes us off as sexist.
1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. 1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. 2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.
